The Vacant Lots are heading to Europe in March 2016 to support the release of a new EP on A Recordings, planned in February.
The EP features the tracks recorded in Berlin with Anton Newcombe (BJM) early 2015.
The American duo released their debut album ‘Departure’ via Sonic Cathedral on July 01st, 2014, available on limited-edition half-black, half-white vinyl, CD and as a digital download. ‘Departure’ was mixed and mastered by former Spacemen 3 legend Sonic Boom and follows previous single releases on Mexican Summer and The Reverberation Appreciation Society.
The Vacant Lots are Jared Artaud and Brian MacFadyen. They initially came together in 2009 in their hometown of Burlington, Vermont, and made their recorded debut a couple years later with the ‘Confusion’ single, which was highly praised by Pitchfork for its “pared down sound, with all excess fat deliciously shorn to the bone, allowing a stone cold downer vibe to bludgeon the listener into a glorious, senseless stupor”.
The key element of The Vacant Lots’ minimalist, primitive rock’n’roll songs is their boundless energy, which tears up the psychedelic rock template with a genuine punk spirit. Combine that with the use of synths and drum machines, and it’s not surprising to see why the band have won over Suicide’s Alan Vega, who actually released a split 10″ vinyl with them on Fuzz Club Records in May 2014.
Another famous friend is former Galaxie 500 and Luna frontman (and now Sonic Cathedral labelmate) Dean Wareham, who plays guitar on ‘Tomorrow’. The Vacant Lots supported Dean on his US East Coast dates and The Brian Jonestown Massacre Uk dates in June and July 2014.
Highlights of their European tour in September 2014 have been Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia and Psych Out Fest in Spain.
